I wouldn’t normally show the process on a portfolio piece, but it’s impossible to really appreciate the image I created for my friend’s granddaughter without seeing what I started from.
Long story short, Ella was too shy to sit in the chair with all the actors around it, so they took a separate picture. There were also someone else’s children in the best picture to use, so I had to cut out Belle and Aurora from another picture and overlay them on top of their presences in the main picture and smooth everything out. Remove the background, layer in a foresty stock photo and overlay some colours and blur in some snowflakes, remove the ground and add a snowy floor with appropriate shadows, overlay some colour grading on the whole thing…
Yeah, this was a lot of work. But it’s a treasured memory to that little girl in the middle, who to this day remembers being surrounded by all those Disney Princesses… even if she actually wasn’t.
